Using Your Spectrum Remote

The quickest way to access recordings is through your Spectrum remote control:

1. Press the DVR button on your Spectrum remote (look for the DVR label at the top)
2. Your recordings appear organized by date, with the most recent at the top
3. Use the Sort option to organize by name, date, or series
4. Select a recording and press OK to play it
5. Use the Play/Pause, FF, and REW buttons during playback

Alternative method: Press the Guide button, navigate to a channel, and select Recordings from the menu to see what you've saved from that channel.

Spectrum TV App (Mobile & Tablet)

The Spectrum TV app lets you watch recordings on your phone, tablet, or computer:

1. Download the Spectrum TV app from the App Store or Google Play Store
2. Sign in using your Spectrum username and password
3. Tap the DVR tab at the bottom of the screen
4. Browse your recordings — they sync automatically from your home DVR
5. Tap a recording to start streaming

Watch on computer: Go to spectrum.net and sign in. Click the DVR section to access your recordings. You can watch from any browser.

Cloud DVR recordings are available on any device. Local DVR recordings can only be streamed within your home network.

Troubleshooting Playback Issues

If your recordings won't play or are glitching, try these fixes:

• Restart your receiver — Unplug the power cord for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait 2-3 minutes for it to reboot
• Check your internet connection — Cloud DVR needs at least 10 Mbps. Test your speed at speedtest.net
• Update the Spectrum TV app — Make sure you're running the latest version from your app store
• Clear app cache — On mobile, go to Settings → Apps → Spectrum TV → Clear Cache
• Check for expired recordings — Cloud DVR recordings older than 90 days are automatically deleted
• Reboot your router — If you're streaming within your home, a router reboot can fix connectivity issues

Managing DVR Storage Space

Running out of DVR space? Here's how to manage it:

• Delete watched recordings — Go through your DVR list and remove shows you've already seen
• Reduce recording quality — Lower resolution recordings take up less space
• Upgrade to 100 hours — The Cloud DVR Upgrade is $4.99/month for double the storage
• Use series management — Set your DVR to keep only the latest 5 episodes of a series
• Prioritize recordings — In Settings, set priority rules for which recordings take precedence when space runs low

Using the Spectrum App on Firestick

If you have a Firestick like I do, watching your Spectrum recordings on the big screen is easy once you set it up. I install the Spectrum TV app from the Amazon Appstore, sign in with my Spectrum credentials, and head straight to the DVR tab. The app runs smoothly on Firestick 4K and even the older Firestick models. I have found that scrolling through recordings with the Firestick remote is faster than using my Spectrum cable remote because the interface is more modern. One tip I always share is to make sure your Firestick is connected via Ethernet or a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal — buffering on DVR playback is almost always a Wi-Fi issue, not a Spectrum issue.
